Tips on Goalsetting
Make long- and short-term goals; keep them simple, however. Long-term goals may seem complicated to fit in here precisely, but adopting a baby-steps strategy works. These are the short-term goals.
Set down motivating goals and put them in a place you can see; ambition won’t become a reality if it remains in your head only. Remember your time frame in a calendar or planner to track progress and minimize procrastination.
Adjust your goals as necessary; the same metrics, time constraints, and motivations may not work for every goal you set. Try to make adjustments wherever and whenever you need to.
Recognize and reward yourself when you meet a goal. Because sometimes you will need more than just the satisfaction of a well-done job.
Develop a roadmap that allows you to reach those goals promptly and calculatedly.
Understand your limits; make sure your goals fit your abilities and values. If a task is way beyond your range of capabilities, setting smaller goals along the way might be a good idea.
Learn from your setbacks because obstacles provide an opportunity to learn and grow. Take time to evaluate what went wrong to become even more effective. But know when to move on and not to dwell on your struggles once you have learned from them.
Don't try to go it alone. Find insight and guidance from a career mentor.
